Death of a Gunslinger

€2,200.00

He was a legend. Now she is. The pulp illustrators of the 1940s and 50s painted these scenes by the hundreds for Nickel Weeklies and Dime Novels, one color, rough yet effective line work, and…

The Colt Army Model 1860 Revolver was one of the most popular cap-and-ball, single-action revolvers ever made. It was a mainstay in the Civil War as well as the weapon of choice for many gunfighters. The technical illustration was its own art form. Different purpose than pulp comics, same skill set: steady hands, purposeful lines, and simplicity.

That's what I'm after with this work - putting two analog crafts in conversation. The pulp artist and the technical draftsman never met, but they were doing the same job. Making sense of the world through hand-drawn precision. The deliberate spray paint drips and the hand-painted figures are my nod to the process - a reminder that handcrafted means not pixel-perfect.
