Analog Funeral

€1,200.00

A '59 Olds, a priest, a vacuum tube, and a salvaged frame. Four things that have no business standing together, until you realize they've all come to bury the same thing.

The frame came first, worn, gilded, and too interesting not to take. The rest arrived a few stalls later, in the form of a 1960s pocket novela. Printed for people to read on the trains here in Portugal, back when a train ride meant reading printed paper or a long look out the window. I don't read Portuguese well enough to know what's happening in these little books, but I can make up my own stories about the few illustrations they include.

Who died? Was there something scandalous about it? Murder? Not analog… analog's fine, it's in your pocket right now. What died is the fixable. The tube you could pull and replace. The radio, you could open and understand. Objects that let you know how they worked, that trusted you with their own insides. We don't get those anymore. We get sealed boxes and a recycling program.

You know the feeling if you've ever popped a hood and knew what you were looking at. That's what’s in the casket. They’re not mourning a thing. They’re burying the idea that the things we own should be knowable.

I'm not giving up my technology anytime soon. But I wanted to pay my respects to what it replaced.

Original Painting: 1,200€, 45cm x 57cm, Acrylic on canvas. 60cm x 71.5cm with its salvaged frame.

Shipping: Free shipping. 5-14 days, depending on your location.

Certification: Comes with a certificate of authenticity, signed, dated, and stamped by me.

Free Mockup
If you would like to see this artwork on your wall before you buy, you can send a photo of your wall, and I will create a mockup.
For best results, follow these steps:

  • Remove any clutter from in front of the wall. It would be best if the wall were blank.

  • Stick a piece of paper (with the size written on the sheet, i.e, “A4” or “Letter”), a Dollar/Euro, or ruler, to the wall as a size reference.

  • Take a natural, well-lit image of your wall.

  • Email your photo and the size of the print you’re interested in to studio@evansmade.com

  • I’ll email your photoshopped image within 1-2 working days.
